    Frequently Asked Questions

Biote Medical is a bioidentical form of hormone therapy that seeks to return the hormone balance to youthful levels in men and women with a hormonal imbalance or deficiency.

Symptoms vary widely. We will have blood work done to determine your hormone levels. Once the doctor reviews your lab results and determines you are a candidate, we will schedule an appointment to begin therapy.

You will need lab work done to begin treatment, and 4–8 weeks later to set your dosing. Changes in your health may require additional blood work, but you do not need to have labs done for every treatment session.

Biote Medical pellets are made from wild yams and soy, which have the highest concentration of hormones of any substance. There are no known allergens associated with the wild yam and soy products used in the pellets, as the extraction process to make the pellets excludes the proteins responsible for allergic reactions.

Treatment lasts about 3–6 months depending on the individual. Everyone is different, so it depends on how you respond to treatment and what the doctor determines is right for you. Absorption rate is based on cardiac output, meaning temperature and physical activity can have an effect on the duration of each treatment.

The composition of the pellets is FDA approved and regulated, the process of making pellets is regulated by the State Pharmacy Board, and the distribution is regulated by the DEA and Respective State Pharmacy Boards. However, the procedure of placing pellets is not FDA approved. The pellets, derived from wild yams and soy, are entirely natural and bioidentical, ensuring they closely replicate the body’s own hormones.

Your practitioner will implant the pellets in the fat under the skin of the hip. A small incision is made in the hip and the pellets are inserted. No stitch is required.

The doctor can determine what your hormone needs are even if you are on birth control.

The majority of side effects are temporary and typically only happen on the first dose. All are treatable. There are no serious side effects.

It is easy to transition to Biote from another hormone replacement therapy (HRT). The doctor will be able to determine your needs even if you are currently taking other forms of HRT.

Breast cancer survivors and/or those who have a history of breast cancer in their family may still be a candidate. Your physician will make the determination.
